Puppet Fun {Into My Little Heart- Psalm 145:17-18}

Once again, this week’s Words were just what I needed… and our project was definitely a favorite for each of our kids.

I can’t tell you how many times, when I was just about to explode or to melt into a puddle of tired tears, one of my little ones would come walking by quoting our memory verses in their best duck or hippopotamus voices.

Their sweet words brought a smile to my face and Truth to my heart.

And I found out that all we need are a pile of paper bags and a box of crayons, to make the best props to memorize Scripture.

For as our children taught God’s Words to those paper bags turned zebras and goats and bears and ducks and snakes and birds and bunnies and cows and horses and tigers and lions… {and their families} His Words were engrained in their own little minds.

Precious reminders that God IS righteous and faithful, and He is near… so near when we call on Him in truth.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.

  1. Now THAT looks fun! Great job, girls! Very entertaining~ and wonderful, soul-feeding entertainment at that! Thanks for sharing! I’m going to show this to my kids and see if it gets any wheels turning… :) They love making puppets out of paper bags, too!

    • We’ll have to have you over for a puppet party. :) The puppets were out all day today too… and even had a trip to the “puppet hospital”- hehe. :)
      See you in the morning!

  2. Soooooo cute!!! I love hearing their sweet giggles! What a great idea, too! I used to use puppets frequently when I taught school, but haven’t used them much with my own kids. Might need to pull them out again – they are fun!

    • Oh, you should have heard all the sweet giggles when they watched their puppet shows (over and over again)- so fun! :)

  3. I so love this idea!! I am going to share it on my blog, and I think my kids and I this May-June will learn Psalm 145 with your fun activities! I need to finish Psalm 71 and they need to finish Awana books first! Thanks for sharing your achievable ideas! I love to see what your family is up to!

    • Sarah, thanks for your sweet encouragement. I’m so blessed that you’ll be able to use these ideas. I look forward to hearing how it goes for you and those sweet kiddos of yours! :)

  4. I just found your website. I don’t have kids, but I love seeing the way you are working with your kids to share the Gospel with them – many ideas for the future! Thanks for sharing!

    • So blessed to meet you, and thankful for your kind encouragement. I love how you are wanting to find ways to share the Gospel with kids now… maybe you have some neighbor kids or nieces and nephews or kids at church that could use some extra love. :) Looking forward to getting to know you more.

  5. I love your ideas. This is really awesome:)

  6. That was quite adorable! Thank you so much for sharing so much of your family with us. You are all very encouraging. It is so wonderful that children of such a young age can have such an impact on us! I love their hearts already.
Yesterday, my three year old, Micah, wasn’t listening the first time and I told him he was going to have his consequence and my six year old, Kaleb, told me he would take his consequence for him instead because he loves his brother so much, just like Jesus loves us. I have many moments where I feel stressed, overwhelmed that I am leading my children wrong, or discouraged when I feel like all I am doing is disciplining, but in those sweet moments when my children shine the light of Jesus to ME, I know that little by little they are seeing the love of Jesus and getting to know Him well!
Do you have an email address that I can send you photos? I always get to see your family and I thought it would be nice to introduce you to mine :)
Much love from a sister in Christ! Keep shining that light…for you are making fishers of men!

    • Thank you, sweet Leslie! Your words make me smile, and truly help me remember how Jesus is working! :)
I’d love to see photos of your family!!! ourfamilyforhisglory {at} gmail {dot} com – I look forward to seeing those dear to your heart!!
      Love, Jessica

  7. I love the idea of using paper bag puppets to encourage scripture recitation! My daughter and I are participating in a church “Game Show” where we have to memorize verses, and I think we’ll work on some puppets this week to add some fun to our practice!

  8. What a great idea!

We’d love for you to share your posts at our Finished Friday blog party.

    • My girls have begged me to get another package of white paper bags, so they can make more puppets- they loved it that much. :)
      Have a wonderful week!
