Early Friday morning, one of my sweet grandma’s breathed her last breath on this side of eternity.
As our family grieves the loss of a loved one, I’m reminded how very short our time here on earth really is.
Even if we live a good, full life as my grandmother did – our days are numbered.
And all our days put together are but the tiniest wink in all of eternity.
What am I living for? What are you?
(Here’s a great video by Francis Chan, “What Are You Living For?” reminding me of what is really important! – Can’t see the video!? Click here.)
It makes me see this week’s verse in a whole new light…
Week 6… Psalm 145:13
“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.”
-Psalm 145:13
God’s kingdom doesn’t have an end – so what am I living for today!? For when my kids are all out of diapers? or When my kids are all out of the house? or When we have a different job? or When we make more money? or When we finally (as Francis Chan says) retire?
That just sounds silly when we think about how long eternity really is… everlasting… never ending… can’t even begin to stretch our arms wide enough or draw a line long enough (which my handsome Isaiah attempted when I told him how long God’s kingdom will last).
But, what I love even more about verse thirteen, is that the last half gives proof of why we should live today for eternity with Him. Not only because He’s got the reins on forever and ever and ever, but because He is trustworthy! And He is faithful!
Trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does… forever!
Want to join me in putting this verse to heart? For those of you joining me in memorizing all of Psalm 145, there’s just one verse this week, so it may give you a good chance to catch up if you’re not as far as you would like. :) Keep on etching His Words in your heart… For the time we spend breathing in and out His Words, God will use for eternity!
How has God shown His faithfulness to you?
What are you living for?
Memorizing Psalm 145…
Week 1: Psalm 145:1-2, Week 2: Psalm 145:3-4, Week 3: Psalm 145:5-7,
Week 4: Psalm 145:8-9, Week 5: Psalm 145:10-12

Don’t you love this illustration?? I have been watching Francis Chan’s services lately and am learning a great deal. One thing I want to tell you Jessica is that you count. You mean so much to God that he hurts greatly when you hurt and knows how very hard this waiting has been. I feel like I have dropped the ball in encouraging your family. I’m so sorry that life took a different turn for you guys and that although you were blind sided, the path you are on is still narrow. You continue to follow and seek and what more could your heavenly father want from you. You might feel weak, used up, not enough but you are still HIS. I am still praying for you my friend. If you are ever up for a girls night let me know. I can make it happen. :)
Amy, Your words are so precious. Thank you! I truly have felt encouraged by you- even though you may feel you dropped the ball- your friendship has been a wonderful blessing! Looking back over the past year and a half, it’s amazing to see how much God has taught us. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been so good. Thank you for reminding me of my value in God’s eyes! I appreciate you! (And would love to have a girls’ night sometime.)
