Around the Table {Memorizing Psalm 145- Week 3}

I slice into an apple as I remind one child to sit down on her chair.

A fork falls to the floor and Ariya whines for more milk.

I clear my throat and force a smile as I blurt out the words tucked in my heart.

Words I’ve continually needed. Words of praise instead of sorrow.

Because who really cares about spilt milk when God died for my sins?

My husband sits next to me and I ask if anyone has something to share about how God has shown His greatness… any mighty work He’s done in our hearts.

Alyssa asks for another apple. Annabella lunges for her cup. But the only things being shared are the paper towels.

Trying not to be discouraged, I take a deep breath and tell of the teacup that broke earlier this morning.

tea party

Bella and I had been setting up for a tea party, complete with white grape juice and chocolate chip cookies. As I poured the juice into the teapot, I heard the cup hit the ground. The handle broke into pieces after my three year-olds attempt at giving the precious cup to her baby-doll. I was not happy. Just as scolding words were to come flying from my mouth, I looked up and saw written on our whiteboard, one generation commends your works to another…”

How could I speak grumpily, when His words of praise were to be on my lips?

So simple. But God worked right there with broken pieces of tea cup in my hand.

Bella's tea

I ask if anyone else has something to share.

They’re still stuck on the teacup.

And how I should fix it.

Bella and baby's tea

So I try once more.

Softly, one girl shares of how she’s been praying for one of her grandmas and how God has heard her prayers. I smile and nod.

Another shares how God’s given her a joy for reading the Bible. One child tells of the beautiful snow God made that they got to play in this morning.

The words sound a bit uncertain and foreign on our lips.

But it’s a start.

The beginning of a beautiful melody where one generation speaks of His splendor and the other responds back with words telling of His power, and together we celebrate His goodness.

Memorizing Psalm 145 with me? {It’s NEVER too late to join us!} I’ve been SO blessed by each and every one of you that have committed to putting His Words into your hearts! This is when it can start getting a bit more difficult (If it hasn’t already). The freshness and excitement may be wearing off, and the routine of breathing His Words in and out may not have become a habit yet. You may be struggling to string all the verses together, and yet here we are adding three new verses this week. Don’t let the enemy have his way into fooling you that you can’t do it! You can! Let’s encourage one another on!! Please share any tips that have helped you engrave these Words into your mind!

Here we go Week 3… Psalm 145:5-7!

5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
6 They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
7 They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
Psalm 145:5-7

***Here are some handouts that may help you string the words together. The first page simply has all of Psalm 145 written out in the NIV. The second handout has two sections: The left side is a fill in the blank section. Every other word is left blank to try to get your mind filling in each blank. The right side contains Psalm 145 written out with the first letters only. See if you can say the verses with the help of the first letters alone. If it helps, print them out and hang them up in a place that you see every day… try placing them in a ziploc baggie and hanging it in your shower (with a little wetness it should stick right to the shower wall).***

  1. I love this and think we will join in. It was so refreshing to read this post because what you described could have been how things go around our table. It is encouraging to read of others with the same goals and knowing it isn’t always perfect
