I sat staring at my hot chocolate with the edges of my scarf twirling around and around in my fingers.
Because behind my smile I feared that she wouldn’t like me, or understand me, or think I was worth investing the five dollars and sixty-two cents it cost to take me out for pie and hot cocoa.
But the meeting was set and before I had the chance to rehearse what I was going to say, I found myself sitting across the table from her.
And there we sat- minutes turning into hours- sharing struggles and joys, failings and trials, and sorrows and stories.
The tight grip on my scarf loosened as my heart filled with the warmth of her words.
My hot chocolate remained scarcely touched as I heard of just a few of the mighty acts God had done in her life and in the lives of her children, now grown.
I didn’t realize how much I had needed those words, and the reminder of how great our God really is.
And I wondered at why -with all the incredible things God has done and is doing- are the words not overflowing from our mouths?
Maybe we’re stuck in the struggles and sorrows… or find it easier to complain about our realities… or are afraid we’ll only look like “freaks”… or just find it safer to talk about the latest reality TV shows.
Maybe we truly cannot see the greatness of our God and no longer recognize His mighty acts.
Maybe we’ve kept quiet too long.
But, let’s not keep quiet any longer!
We moms need to hear of God’s mighty acts from the older generation, just as our children need to hear of His works from us.
And if we’ve lost sight of His mighty works, lets look to the Bible- packed full of His greatness (It’s what His Word is all about!). And let’s draw near to Him, who loves to display His awesome deeds.
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise!
Who can you share God’s greatness with today?
Who can you seek out to speak of God’s mighty acts into your life?
For my Psalm 145 friends… How was the first week (well, five-days because I couldn’t wait any longer)?? I’m praying for you!
{Week 2}
3Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. 4One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts.

Thank you for this!! It might not have been your focus, but you prompted me to finally ask a woman I admire to be my mentor. Such a sweet post that made me realize I need to have those conversations too!
Thank you, sweet Aurie! Your words are always so full of kind encouragement! It was an under-lying hope of mine that others would feel they too could seek out a mentor. I can’t tell you how blessed I was after that night! Praying you have a great week!

Beautifully written, and very encouraging. I have longed for a mentor and will commit to praying for one after reading your words. Thank you!
Thank you, Morgan! I’m praying for you right now! For I know how intimidating yet precious finding the right mentor can be!
Have a blessed day!

Thank you for sharing this! I just started memorizing Psalm 145 with you, so I’m a little behind :) Thanks for the encouragement!
Kelly, I’m SO glad that you are joining in on memorizing Psalm 145! What a blessing to know I’m not alone. And, as long as we’re truly seeking to hide His Words in our heart- there’s no such thing as behind. :)
