The season of Cheerio crumbs covering the floors, stinky sippy-cups hiding in closets, and kiss-marks gracing the windows continues at our house. (Although those moldy bath toys have finally been moved to their rightful place… the trash!) Yet, the desire to build our home- the people and the place- for the glory of God also remains. And as I do my best to make a home that is welcoming, loving, comfortable, and God-honoring (All the while remembering that nowhere in the Bible does it say that I need to have a Martha-Stewart like home that is never sticky and gooey and is always Pinterest worthy!), I’ve found it helpful to have our housekeeping schedule written out. (Remember this is what works for ME and MY family!)

It’s just a simple paper quickly explaining what I’d like to accomplish that day. {You can find out more details about my “housekeeping schedule” in this post.} Bible verses are sprinkled throughout, to focus my mind on Christ, and to serve as a constant reminder that I’d much rather strive for spotless hearts than a spotless home!
And I thought I’d share it with you! :) You can download and/or print your own copy here!
{Please note that I do have lots of little helpers that truly do help with each of these tasks! We’ve been using our Chore books for over two years, and still love them… although one went missing for a while- meaning a couple months- so for the older girls, we’re just using a white-board to write down chores. I’m waiting to update them until I find out a little more about our future. :)}
What helps you to take care of your home for the glory of God?

My Housekeeping Schedule

I love your printable! I was looking at your chore books, and I am making one for my 4 yr old. I have a question about the books ~ since Sunday is a day of rest, what do you do about the sunshine chores on that day? Do the kids automatically do those things or do they still carry their books on Sunday? Thanks.
Thanks for your encouragement, Karen! On Sundays we don’t use the chore books. The sunshine chores have become a habit… use bathroom, get dressed, brush hair, make bed… and so at this point they naturally get them done (with the exception of making the bed, which I don’t mind if they don’t make their beds on Sunday, as long as we’re not having company right after church). Hope that helps some. :) The chore books really have been such a blessing in our family!
Have a great night.
Jessica
This is great – I really like how you’ve grouped your days!
Thanks, Aurie! Now that I’ve made a plan and even typed it out :) it’s much easier to carry out!
Hugs!
I love you list! I keep trying and trying list and I just can’t do it. I can’t stand lists. I’m still working on something that will help me stay organized. I’m still at a point of just taking care of whatever area is out of control but hopefully that won’t last forever. I keep trying!
Oh Kari, You make me smile! :) I go a bit list crazy at times… you should see me when I’m pregnant… I make lists for EVERYTHING! :) You keep giving it over to God and asking Him to lead you! Blessings, Jessica
Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Can’t wait to print it!
I’m also hoping to make chore books soon.
Thanks for the encouragement, Kelly! I hope it’s a blessing in your house! (Oh, and a hint for when mine are as little as yours… lay the chore card pages (pictures of the chores) out on the table and have them flip them over when they’re done.) Praying for you tonight! Jessica
My littles (who are 7 and 5 today! (and 8 months, but she doesn’t count for this) have chore check lists in their bedroom. It is a simple paper with the chore writen out (this really is for am chores) and a simple picture of what the chore is. Also there is a big square written on the paper so the kids can check mark it. The paper is put in a page protector and hung on a clip board hung on the wal. They have a dry erase marker to check off the thing they are doing. It has been so helpful in the morning not having to keep telling them what to do to get ready for school (we are in public school). I used to get so frustrated and then angry because I was constantly repeating myself. Now they have a visual aid and know not to come out of their room until everything down to “brush your teeth” is checked! It has saved us tons of time as well!
What a great chore check list! It sounds like it is working really well! :) I have a friend who did a similar thing and had it hanging on each child’s door. What a simple but great idea!
Thanks for this useful list, Jessica! I love the scriptures- that will keep me focused:) I have been using a few lists(some worked, some didn’t) but will use this one as a template for my household. You are such a blessing to me!
Vera, thank-you for flooding me with encouragement! Some lists work for me too, and others not so much, but this one has certainly helped me stay focused.
Blessings!
Hi Jessica,
Found your blog while searching for help with organizing household cleaning. Can’t seem to find a good groove with two two and under. I feel like I’m barely keeping up. Your list is GREAT! And as much as I just want to print yours up and go off of it, several commitments mean I have to have things a little different.
Could you tell me how to set this up? And what font did you use?! I love it!
Thanks so much for your blog. I have been coming back to read it more and more:)
Hi Mandi! Thank you for your kind encouragement! For some reason I can’t find my original on my computer. :( But, I’m pretty sure that I just used Microsoft Word and (except for the top part) used a two column format (centering the words in the columns). I think these are the fonts (all of them came free on my computer)- days of the week: AR Christy, chores for the day- AR Cena, descriptions- Century Gothic, Bible verses- Californian FB. Hope that helps a little! :)
I’m so glad you’re able to tweak it and do what works for you! Have a great day!
Jessica
