Teaching Children About KINDNESS {Family Time}

This past week during “Family {Bible} Time”, we continued on our journey of discovering how to “clothe ourselves” with the virtues in Colossians 3. This week we learned about “clothing ourselves with KINDNESS” & we had lots of fun! :)

As we were finishing our dinner, we read & talked about some Bible verses about KINDNESS…
*God’s Kindness (that He always has)…
“…with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you,”
says the LORD your Redeemer.” (Isaiah 54:8)
“The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us…” (Titus 3:4-5)
“…God’s kindness leads you toward repentance”.” (Romans 2:4)

*Our Kindness (that we should have)…
          “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other,
just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)
“…be kind to everyone…” (2 Timothy 2:24)
“…always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.” (! Thessalonians 5:15)

Then we played a “charades-like” game to practice showing kindness! Our kids had so much fun, they begged to play the game over & over again! :)

Each child was given a scenario of different times when they could/should show kindness (we’d read it to the little ones). Each scenario included a different “character” that they could dress up like. They would run all over the house finding ways to dress up like that character. When everyone was ready, one at a time, they would read the scenario & then act it out. Everyone else would then have to find ways to show that “character” kindness. For example… How could we show kindness when the ballerina lost a ballet slipper?… or when the the knight is standing in your way?… or when the explorer misses his/her mommy?

I do believe this was “the pastor preaching from the Bible” & “the baker trying to make a cake”! :)

It was a super easy & fun way to see their creativity, & to know that they were practicing KINDNESS at the same time! And now YOU can play the game too!

How do YOU teach your children about KINDNESS???

* * * Family {Bible} Time tip of the week…* * *
Make it work for YOUR family! If you have older children… have them play “the Kindness Game” by completely acting out the scenario, so others would have to guess what their “character” was doing.
If you have younger children… model some simple ways to be kind, even to the littlest learners!
Have fun! :)
I’d love to hear how Family Time is working for you!!!
